A word from Renee:

"I’ve been thinking a lot lately about why I chose photography as a career and what I think I bring to it. I chose photography because I noticed that I mentally composed what I saw in the world into still framed images.

Gordon Park’s -- “A Choice of Weapons,” profoundly affected me. I saw the camera as a very objective way to understand the world, to ask the big questions. I never believed I’d have all the answers, simply to be curious was enough.

You make your choices in life. You attempt to manage what you’ve given.

Having been taught the doctrine of “free will,” I took note that it seemed truer that we are all given a set of circumstances. These circumstances occur in life and affect the vision you had for yourself.

I think the most important lesson is to know that you just continue to adapt that vision.

I ended up in a studio working in commercial advertising photography, when I began this journey thinking I would be traveling the globe, working editorially for publications.

The tools you are given to work with in photography are: camera point of view, composition, and lighting. I have worked with these tools to the best of my ability, to create what I hope are at the very least, beautiful images, and in the highest sense, meaningful images. I have a very deep and long running relationship a friend and colleague, Sienna DeGovia, an LA based food stylist and fine artist. We have endeavored to produce a body of work that is conceptual with food as the medium. We had our first gallery show at the end of 2019 and we are continuing to produce work as that entity, “Feast or Folly.” We will be launching that through new website and social sites in next few months. It is what I am most excited about!"

"I love it when an image has a second meaning… You see the image for what it is at its first read but upon glancing at it for more than a few moments to begin to see a second meaning.

I guess in the end I do try to tell stories…food being the subject.

I have always felt a desire to explore mankind’s connection to the earth and our effect on it. The legacy we leave and the process by which we create our lives and spaces within it. Food is one way in which we take what we are given, the raw ingredients and develop them into something new, a second wholly new creation. It’s a beautiful process and I am honored to not only be a witness to it but to actively take part in telling those stories."
